Collective Architecture working with students from the Mackintosh School of Architecture have designed a pavilion to house a new short film ‘Sightlines’ which had its premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) on the 19th June.
The film, directed by Genevieve Bicknell, is inspired by historical aerial photography of Commonwealth countries gathered throughout the second half of the twentieth century by the Directorate of Overseas Surveys, now held in the National Collection of Aerial Photography. Set in Kenya, and combining 3D aerial images and personal cinefilm from the 1950s, with live action footage of the present day, the film explores how everyday actions can have profound political consequences.
Fabciated by Maklab the plywood pavilion is alternately clad soft in bespoke printed fabric and large scale hard graphics including a large 9m2 anaglyph (3d steroscopic image) of Kingston harbour from the air.
The film will be screened on a continuous loop within the purpose-designed exhibition pavilion at: Edinburgh College of Art (22-27 June), The Empire Cafe in Glasgow (26 July – 1 August) and The Lighthouse in Glasgow (7 August – 14 September).
